The fact that 88 people running for national and provincial assembly seats had gone away before the polls casts a sombre shadow over the impending elections.

Nine National Assembly candidates and 79 candidates for provincial assemblies are included in this.

The catastrophe has compelled the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) to postpone voting in three significant constituencies: PK-22, PK-91 Kohat, and NA-8 Bajaur. The killing of an independent candidate in NA-8 Bajaur and the passing of independent candidates in the other two seats are the reasons behind these postponements.

Nevertheless, reports stated that the fatalities have not resulted in a postponement of polls in the 85 remaining seats.

The elections for two provincial assembly seats and one National Assembly seat have been postponed overall.

The remaining 85 candidates who passed away before the final candidate lists were revealed have not yet had their causes of death disclosed by the ECP, but their deaths nonetheless serve as a reminder of the human cost of the political process.

Important concerns concerning candidates’ health and the possible need for more medical care during campaigns are brought up by this episode. One thing is evident as the country deals with the practical difficulties of the postponements and grieves the loss of life, the human aspect in elections is very important.
