The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has predicted substantial precipitation in the majority of districts in Punjab, with the monsoon season anticipated to persist until July 15th.
The PDMA official stated that the province is expected to experience rainfall along with powerful gusts of wind and thunder.
The PDMA has issued a cautionary notice regarding a substantial likelihood of urban flooding in prominent cities, including as Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, and Gujranwala. In addition, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi are particularly susceptible to urban flooding as a result of the substantial precipitation.
Despite the anticipated heavy rainfall, the water levels in the rivers of Punjab are currently within the usual range. The PDMA has verified that the water levels in the Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej rivers are now steady.
The Director General of the PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, has issued instructions to all relevant authorities to maintain a state of heightened vigilance and guarantee the protection of citizens. He stressed the significance of making earlier preparations, especially in bigger cities, to minimise the potential consequences of the high rainfall.
The PDMA recommends that residents remain well-informed about weather updates and take appropriate measures, particularly in areas that are susceptible to flooding.
The Meteorological Department has predicted substantial precipitation in several regions of the country today, providing respite from the scorching temperatures. Precipitation is anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, upper Punjab, and northeast Balochistan.
Islamabad, the capital city, is forecasted to have partly overcast weather with a chance of precipitation in and around the area.
The authority further stated that the upcoming period of monsoon rains in Karachi is expected to commence after July 20. The meteorological service has predicted that the city will see partially cloudy conditions with high temperatures and high levels of humidity.
