In honor of their contributions, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that UN operations have been essential in preserving peace and defending civilians in crisis areas on Wednesday, the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
Over two million civilians and soldiers have assisted nations in their transition from war to peace since 1948, according to the United Nations. In 11 missions stationed in hotspots across the globe, more than 70,000 peacekeepers serve today.
The Day honors the over 4,000 peacekeepers who have lost their lives defending peace in addition to paying tribute to their service and sacrifice.
For their noteworthy services, Pakistani peacekeepers received a special word of thanks from Prime Minister Shehbaz.
Since we have been committed to UN peacekeeping for 64 years, 230,000 military personnel—among them our courageous female peacekeepers from Pakistan—have made the country proud. There were 181 martyrs among them, and we also honor those who gave their lives in the name of world peace.
He posted on his X timeline, “Their unselfish act of courage and sacrifice will forever be etched in our hearts.”
A future “where peace prevails and humanity thrives” was emphasized by the prime minister as well as Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and peace.
