He was greeted with warmth at the Islamabad International Airport by Ahmed Naseem Warraich, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Additional Foreign Secretary for Afghanistan and West Asia, who was posted on X account.

FM Azerbaijan will pay a visit to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and have in-depth talks with Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, during his visit.

The two parties had already inked a deal for the import of at least one LNG cargo each month while the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government was in power. Pakistan LNG Limited and the Azeri Company SOCAR signed the agreement.

Unfortunately, Pakistan was only able to acquire a small number of LNG cargoes from Azerbaijan and was unable to maintain regular supplies. Separately, Pakistan has a long-term deal in place and has been importing LNG from Qatar for many years.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, worldwide LNG prices rose, making it difficult for Islamabad to obtain spot cargoes and causing extensive power disruptions.
