In the third match in Colombo, Sri Lanka defeated India by 110 runs to win their first bilateral one-day international series in 27 years.

After left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage took 5-27 to help India collapse to 138 all out, opener Avishka Fernando scored 96 to help Sri Lanka total 248-7.

After the first ODI finished in a thrilling draw, Sri Lanka went on to win the series 2-0, winning the second by 32 runs.

After the hosts’ final triumph in a bilateral ODI series against India in August 1997, India went on to win 11 of the next 13 series and draw two more.

The Twenty20 series was won 3-0 by India last month.

Following their elimination from the T20 World Cup group stage, former England captain Chris Silverwood resigned, and new captain Charith Asalanka and temporary head coach Sanath Jayasuriya assumed leadership of Sri Lanka for the first time.
