Concerned about security, the Punjab Home Department enforced Section 144 throughout the province and released a notice outlining the prohibition on public meetings, processions, demonstrations, and sit-ins.

Article 144, which outlaws jalsas, procession, rallies, sit-ins, and protests across the province, will take effect immediately throughout all of Punjab.

In light of the threats posed by terrorism, Section 144 was put into place as a protective measure, as stated in the notification.

Given the dangers and the application of Section 144 in the public interest, the general people could be a prime target for terrorists.

Section 144 will remain in effect until Thursday, June 27.
