Today (Monday) is the first day that the Pakistani Supreme Court (SC) will hear intra-court arguments contesting the creation of military courts [to handle matters pertaining to the deadly riots of May 9].
The appeals will be heard by the Supreme Court’s six-member bench. A new six-member bench was established on Friday by Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, specifically for this reason.
The bench, which also includes Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Shahid Wahid, Musarrat Hilali, and Irfan Saadat Khan, will be led by Justice Aminuddin Khan.
