According to a ministry statement, the regional passport office in Garden Town, Lahore, will be open 24/7, while the regional passport office at Awami Markaz in Karachi will be open 24 hours a day.

At these regional offices, services will be available to the public in three shifts.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday through a social media post on X that this move would make access to passport office services quicker and more convenient for citizens at any time.

The change is intended to dramatically decrease the pressure on current passport offices and shorten application wait times.

According to sources, more than 800,000 passports are presently awaiting printing, although this backlog is likely to be addressed soon with the procurement of new machinery and lamination papers.

Passport and Immigration authorities are currently printing 20-25,000 passports every day while receiving 40-45,000 applications.

On March 30, it was reported that applicants for Pakistani passports were experiencing significant delays in their issuance.

According to estimates, approximately 5,50,000 passport applicants were facing delays of two to three months in getting their passports.
