With the backing of the Special Investment Facilitation Council, a Chinese solar company has inked a deal with the Punjab Provincial Government to open a plant for the production and assembly of solar panels in the area.
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, the provincial minister of industry and commerce for Punjab, and Alex Hang, the president of the South Pacific Region for “AIKO,” inked the deal.
This is Punjab’s first solar panel factory, with an eye on exports as well as local markets, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain clarified.
In order to lower the cost of electricity for businesses and households, he emphasised the necessity of solar energy.
The government has worked with 21 international businesses to promote solar energy during the last five months, and many of them have expressed interest in making investments in Punjab.
He also cited the Punjab government’s plans to convert 7,000 tube wells to solar power and give low-income people solar panels for free or on easy installment plans.
Projects to solarise Sheikhupura’s Garments City and establish a solar panel testing lab are also underway.
