With the new presidential edict, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set up two more election tribunals.

Extra Election Tribunal Judges for Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi, respectively, will be Justice (Rtd) Shakoor Paracha and Justice (Rtd) Zafar Iqbal, according to ECP sources.

The additional electoral tribunal judge for three Islamabad constituencies will be former justice Shakoor Paracha.

The Election Commission’s sources state that the federal government gave the Election Commission the authority to name retired judges to serve on tribunals under the Presidential Ordinance, and that notice for the creation of two new tribunals was sent out on June 7.

Many former judges were among the names proposed by the Election Commission members. Nonetheless, the willingness of two retired judges to lead the tribunals was indicated.

As per sources close to the Election Commission, the Election Commission possesses exclusive control over the nomination of tribunal judges.

The ECP is not required to confer with others when appointing retired judges, according to the Presidential Ordinance, they stated. As a result, numerous judges’ names have been proposed by Election Commission members.
