Known for its state-of-the-art technology, it looks like Apple is looking into methods to use rotating displays to improve the MacBook experience.

By providing a more flexible and engaging computing experience, this possible invention might drastically alter how consumers engage with their gadgets.

Apple has received a patent for a feature set that may be included in upcoming MacBooks from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, according to Patently Apple. A MacBook with a detachable display and built-in rear cameras is described in the patent.

The MacBook under discussion is equipped with a rotating and detachable display section and a base section housing an input device. An aperture and an internal volume may be present in the display, which may also be able to house rear cameras and other sensor modules, such as a LiDAR module.

The patent’s FIG. 2B illustration depicts a MacBook including a rear camera that either protrudes from the back lid or is flush with it, resembling the rear cameras of iPhones. Figure 5, another image, shows a multi-camera arrangement similar to the iPhone Pro.

An infrared camera, a time-of-flight camera, a LiDAR module, and sensors for object and facial identification are just a few of the sensor alternatives shown in the patent’s FIG. 3C.

Additionally, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 9A, the patent includes ideas for an attachable and removable camera. A MacBook display is shown attached to the base section in FIG. 8A via a hinge assembly, and the camera module is detachable from the front display as needed in FIG. 9B.

Originally submitted in April 2022, this invention is a prime example of Apple’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve the functionality of its MacBook lineup by adding cutting-edge technologies to the camera and display.
