The second statewide polio vaccination campaign of the year was launched on Sunday by the Health Ministry, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to shielding all children against the virus that causes paralysis.
In the course of this second campaign of 2024, which will take place nationwide from February 26 to March 3 and in 33 districts of KP from March 2 to March 6, around 45.8 million children under the age of five will receive vaccinations.
To strengthen their immunity, children will also get vitamin A supplements.
“Polio is a dreadful disease that may paralyse youngsters for the rest of their lives and has no known treatment. Sadly, there is still a risk to our children since some individuals refuse to vaccinate their children because they have erroneous beliefs about the vaccine.
The Federal Secretary for Health, Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, said this after administering polio drops to children.
While the government is making enormous strides towards eliminating polio in Pakistan, Shallwani noted that decision-makers, parents, and other carers also have a significant obligation to guarantee the wellbeing of their children.
