A man in India’s Ahmedabad State allegedly thrashed and abandoned his wife after she failed to bring Rs500,00 from her parents to pay for his Canadian visa.
As reported by The Times of India, the woman, 30, filed a complaint against her husband under the country’s Domestic Violence Act.
The woman said that her husband was planning to move to Canada but could not afford to pay for the work permit. He, therefore, told his wife to go to her parents and demand the money from them.
Upon her failure to get the money, the husband allegedly beat her and later abandoned her.
In the first information report (FIR), the woman said that she married the man from Chandkheda on January 30. It was a second marriage for both of them.
The woman further alleged that in order to “integrate” into the Canadian culture, her husband had started drinking alcohol in a bid to “practice it,” saying this would be “needed in Canada.”
When she tried to stop him from drinking, he tortured her, she claimed in the FIR.
She said that her parents did not have the required amount to pay to the husband.
