A citizen has filed a petition with the Lahore High Court asking the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to look into the wheat import issue.

Using attorney Nadeem Sarwar, Mashkoor Hussain filed the petition on Monday.

The respondents identified by the petitioner are the prime minister, the federation, and the former caretaker prime minister.

Hussain emphasizes in his appeal that 0.778 million metric tonnes of wheat were imported in the first two months of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.

He contends that an impartial probe was improbable given the government’s possible role in the wheat import scam. He claims there is a lack of transparency inside the government-formed investigating committee.

The petitioner is asking the court to give the NAB the go-ahead to fully investigate the incident, find the people who stole the money, and return it to the state coffers.
