According to specifics, a small delegation from the IMF has arrived in Islamabad to help the finance ministry complete the FY2024–25 budget.
Other IMF mission members are expected to arrive in Pakistan on May 16 evening, according to the sources, but the team will remain in Pakistan for over ten days.
For a new financing scheme, the delegation will negotiate with Islamabad.
Previous reports indicated that prior to the arrival of the IMF mission, the administration had accelerated budget target preparations. Relevant ministries have been instructed by the Ministry of Finance to meet targets as soon as possible.
The sources indicated that the IMF will receive the framework for all significant fiscal targets.
Before the IMF team arrives, it is also said that the federal cabinet will need to approve a strategy paper about the FY25 budget.
In addition, a preliminary estimate will be generated for salaries, government spending, pensions, and loan repayments. Both defense spending and tax collection goals will be set by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
