RAWALPINDI: Australia’s first Test in Pakistan for nearly a quarter of a century ended in a draw on Tuesday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Australia are on their first tour of Pakistan since 1998, having previously refused to visit over security fears.
Pakistan elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique played throughout Day 5 to set some new records.
After gaining 17-runs lead thanks to Nauman Ali’s six-fer, Pakistani openers looked to score some quick runs initially but due to limited time left, the batters went on to register some records.
Returning from tea, Abdullah scored his maiden Test hundred followed by Imam’s consecutive century which made him the 10th Pakistani batter to score a century in both innings of a Test.
The two batters led Pakistan to 252-0 which is also the highest-ever partnership by the Green Caps against Australia. The previous highest was 249 between Abdul Qadir and Khalid Abdullah which they scored back in 1964.
