Two ladies who were willing to travel to Saudi Arabia were detained and were on their way to the Kingdom to beg, according to an FIA immigration spokesperson.

According to the FIA spokesman, one of the jailed women’s sons is currently in Saudi Arabia on a visa for Umrah, valid until 2022.

The spokesperson stated, “We are obtaining additional information regarding the matter.”

24 accused beggars posing as pilgrims traveling to Umrah were released off a flight headed for Multan, Pakistan, earlier by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The passengers admitted that they were headed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ask for alms when FIA authorities questioned them during the immigration process.

After revealing to the Senate Committee on Overseas Pakistanis that a sizable percentage of beggars are trafficking overseas through illicit means, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development made the arrests.
