The Sindh Ministry of Irrigation and Food made a statement stating that the project’s goals are to safeguard sustainable economic development, provide jobs for the local population, and preserve coastal landscapes.
The ADB delegation, headed by Team Leader Dr. David Freuilich, met with Sindh Minister for Food and Irrigation, Jam Khan Shoro, to discuss the project.
According to Dr. Freuilich, “the ADB is committed to supporting Pakistan in addressing environmental pollution, promoting food security, agricultural development, and cultural heritage preservation.”
The project’s main goal is to repair the roads, woods, and drains in Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin’s coastal regions—all of which have been negatively impacted by recent floods and rain. Minister Jam Khan Shoro declared, “Before the project begins, a survey, design, and mapping of the Indus Delta in Badin, Thatta, and Sujawal will be conducted.”
The minister also proposed adding the Shakoor drain to the project and boosting the capacity of the Karo Gondro drain.
The project, which is anticipated to have a major influence on the local economy and ecology, will be financed with a $180 million loan from the ADB.
