The Senate’s electoral college consists of the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies.
The senate elections must take place on a month-long schedule, according to sources. After the completion of the four provincial legislatures and the National Assembly, elections will take place.
It should be noted that elections were supposed to take place in the first week of the current month, but the terms of the half senators in the current senate will end on March 11.
According to parliamentary sources, the Senate elections may not take place until the third week of March. The sources went on, “Incumbent senators will remain members of the house until the election of the new senators.”
It was expected that the Senate election schedule would be announced just after the general elections.
On March 11, 50 senators are anticipated to retire, bringing the number of senators in the Senate to 96 following the cancellation of four FATA seats as a result of the region’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
There will be elections to fill the 48 open Senate seats.
