KARACHI: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari Saturday said “one man” (an indirect reference to Imran Khan) could not be allowed to turn the country into an anarchist state and that they would not tolerate any attack on institutions.

“One man is crossing every line to plunge the country into chaos,” Zardari said while slamming the PTI for “spewing venom against the country’s agencies”.

“That man neither cares about the integrity of the country, nor does he have any respect for the institutions. All he thinks about is power, power, and only power.”

He said the country’s survival was linked to institutions.

“Since 1947, we have faced the enemy along with the institutions and will also do so in future; however, this time the enemy struck us through our own people,” Zardari said.

“We cannot forget the martyrdoms of the Pakistan Army and will also foil the enemy’s conspiracy.”

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Friday said he would resume his protest march to Islamabad after recovering from an assassination attempt, as his supporters staged nationwide protests that blocked major roads.

Khan was shot in the leg on Thursday as he waved to crowds from a container mounted on a truck from where he was leading a protest march on the capital to press for early elections and calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“I will give a call to march on Islamabad once I get better,” Khan, a former international cricket star-turned-politician, said in a live address on Friday from a hospital in Lahore where he has been receiving medical treatment.

Khan accused three people of devising the plan to assassinate him, naming PM Shehbaz, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a military official. He did not provide evidence for his claim.

The media wing of Pakistan’s military called the allegations “baseless and irresponsible.”

“The government of Pakistan has been requested to investigate the matter and initiate legal action against those responsible for defamation and false accusations against the institution and its officials without any evidence whatsoever,” the military’s Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

PTI founder Imran Khan is expected to meet with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation committee, which is in communication with the government, in Adiala jail today (Monday),

Sources claim that Omar Ayub, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Allama Nasir Abbas, Salman Akram Raja, and Asad Qaiser—all members of the negotiation committee—will meet with the founder of the PTI.

According to sources, the PTI founder and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, are also scheduled to meet one-on-one today.

Attorney Faisal Chaudhary, who founded the PTI, would support the bargaining committee. The PTI founder would be consulted by the negotiation committee on the third round of talks with the government, according to sources.

The coordination committees of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are scheduled to convene today at the Governor’s House in Lahore to deliberate on power-sharing arrangements in Punjab.

The PPP delegation would comprise Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Mahmood, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Hassan Murtaza, and Ali Haider Gilani.

Ishaq Dar, Azam Nazir Tarar, Rana Sanaullah, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan, and Maryam Aurangzeb will represent the PML-N.

The conference will discuss local issues in Punjab and offer a forum for the PPP to express its concerns over its collaboration with PML-N in the province.

Both parties seek to fortify their partnership and optimize governance techniques in Punjab.

Assad Qaiser, a former speaker and PTI leader, had earlier called on Speaker Ayaz Sadiq of the National Assembly to discuss the official start of talks with the government.

The two leaders shared their opinions on bringing parties together on matters of national importance and reducing political tensions and conflict.

“I will persuade my people, you persuade the hardliners in your party,” Ayaz Sadiq said to Assad Qaiser.

The party’s founder is in jail, and the PTI leadership has asked to meet with him. “We will continue to confer with him,” Assad Qaiser declared.

Earlier, PTI leader Shaukat Yousafzai stated that if the discussions don’t begin, a campaign of civil disobedience will begin on December 14.
