KARACHI: According to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), a major gas pipeline froze on Tuesday, disrupting the gas supply to sections of Quetta and the neighboring areas as the temperature dropped to -6°C.
An 18-inch diameter pipeline in Quetta has frozen, mostly affecting Nawan Killi and the surrounding communities, according to the SSGC spokeswoman.
The extremely cold weather has also had an impact on the gas supply in Pishin, Kuchlak, Bostan, and Ziarat.
In order to restore the gas supply, technical teams have been working on the frozen pipeline since six in the morning, the SSGC spokeswoman noted.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the majority of the country will experience dry, cold weather over the course of the next 24 hours.

In contrast, the hilly regions are likely to experience extremely chilly and partly cloudy to cloudy weather during this time.
During the morning, there was a chance of shallow to moderate fog (in patches) in a few locations in Upper Sindh and Northeast/South Punjab.
The synoptic condition indicated that continental air was dominant over the majority of the nation. The country’s upper regions were being traversed by a shallow westerly wave.
Most of the country saw cold, dry weather over the past 24 hours, while mountainous regions experienced extremely cold and partly overcast conditions.
