Shortly before the current attack in Rahim Yar Khan’s Machka area, Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar had issued warnings about the possibility of dacoit attacks in the Katcha area bordering Punjab and Sindh.

The IGP made it clear in an exclusive interview with Samaa TV that more attacks on police checkpoints are planned as part of the ongoing effort to combat dacoit gangs in the area.

Dr. Anwar further claimed that the only issues facing the neighboring region were those related to social and economic growth. Additionally, he made note of the fact that rising river levels caused dacoit gang activity to escalate, raising security worries. He issued a warning, saying that criminals took advantage of the difficult terrain and erratic river conditions in the Katcha area.

Dr. Usman Anwar said, “The police chief will say the same ten years later too.”

He added that the Punjab Police have set up 70 stations close to riverine areas in order to combat these threats, saying that the dacoits are unable to enter populous areas because of opposition at checkpoints in the area. These posts are positioned carefully to stop dacoits from entering Punjab from nearby regions like Sindh and penetrating populous areas.

The head of police also emphasized the operation’s achievements, especially in taking down big dacoit gangs like the Andhar and Shar gangs.

Dr. Anwar revealed that thermal imaging cameras had been placed at border crossings and checkpoints to improve surveillance capabilities. In order to better monitor and address dacoit activity, the police department is also currently acquiring telescopic weapons and surveillance drones.

He added that there was a risk of assaults in the Katcha region and that the Pakistan Army was essential in assisting the police operation by supplying cutting-edge gear and weaponry using its own resources. He declared that more equipment and drones would be bought.

In an interview with the media later in Rahim Yar Khan, the IGP stated that an operation had been carried out in the area last night, resulting in the death of the primary suspect in Thursday’s attack and the injuries of four to five others.

IGP,”The police departments of Punjab and Sindh are collaborating. He stated, “We are in contact with the IGP and the Sindh DIG is visiting. Intelligence-based actions are being carried out.

Dr. Usman Anwar clarified, “We are bolstering the checkpoints in the Katcha area.”
