RAWALPINDI: Despite orders for his arrest, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, made it to reach a rally of his supporters in Rawalpindi’s Committee Chowk, minutes after police fired tear gas shells and baton charged his supporters during a fierce crackdown.
“I have reached as promised, I have fulfilled my promised to hold a rally despite use of force against me and my supporters,” Sheikh said.
He reached the scene on motorbike, dressed in shalwar qameez and holding a cigar in his typical style. Earlier, a large number of political activists, violating Section-144, gathered at the Committee Chowk on Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s call; however, riot police fired tear-gas shells and baton charged the workers who pelted the law-enforcers with stones.
The police continued to chase political activists into streets. The police surge was led by DPO Rawalpindi. The intense shelling faint several workers as aerial firing as going on, turning the area into battle ground.Islamabad police have almost sealed Islamabad and Rawalpindi
