Resistance camp calls for shutdown in poll-bound areas today

The leaders said the re-polling is one “more deceit being orchestrated by the government and the main motive is to increase the voting percentage through rigging and bogus voting.

Kashmir’s joint resistance leadership—Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik—on Wednesday called for shutdown in poll-bound areas of Kashmir on Thursday (April 13).“We hope people in their befitting reply would reject this drama once again and boycott these elections with same spirit as witnessed on April 9,” the resistance leaders said in a joint statement.

“State administration has turned poll-bound areas into a military garrison but our people are brave enough and with their exemplary strength and resolve they will once again reject these sham elections,” they added.

The leaders said the re-polling is one “more deceit being orchestrated by the government and the main motive is to increase the voting percentage through rigging and bogus voting.”

“We have called for a public gathering in Budgam on April 14 and people while reaffirming their faith (Tajdeed-e-Uhad) with movement will offer their condolences to the bereaved families of slain youth.”

“People through poll boycott have conveyed that they are sensitive and mature enough for their political struggle. It will support our case and prove positive for the ongoing struggle,” they said. “We are sure it will impress upon international community and compel them to take notice of present developments and also shake conscience of people in India.”

Meanwhile, the leadership expressed deep grief over the death of a woman (due to suffocation allegedly caused by intensive teargas shelling) at Tahab, Pulwama. “We strongly condemn state forces for their brutality and share the grief of the bereaved family. Unbridled powers given to forces are great cause of concern,” the leaders said.

Referring to “indiscriminate” use of force by men in uniform, the resistance leaders said: “Forces enjoy impunity and license to kill anybody and till now not a single forces personnel has been brought to book for committing atrocities.”

They expressed anguish against the “indiscriminate” use of smoke shells and said: “There seems no letup as experts have declared these weapons as lethal and have asked authorities to stop this practice against humans.”
