The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, the Service Chiefs, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan solemnly commemorate the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, an exemplar of heroism and patriotism.
In the 1971 conflict, Major Shabbir Sharif, a recipient of the Sitara-e-Jurat for his bravery in the 1965 war, was assigned to secure a strategically vital high ground near the Sulemanki headworks. During the night of December 5th to 6th, he exhibited exceptional bravery by engaging in close-quarters fighting and neutralizing Major Narain Singh, the company commander of the 4 Jat Regiment. On December 6th, he courageously thwarted many enemy counterattacks, personally annihilating oncoming tanks with a recoilless weapon. After successfully securing the objective and repelling multiple attacks, Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed attained martyrdom when hit by an Indian tank shell.
Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed’s remarkable valor, steadfast commitment, and ultimate sacrifice exemplify the pinnacle of patriotism and military distinction. He inscribed his legacy in history with his blood, safeguarding the homeland against insurmountable odds.
